Whatsapp Text Formatting not working

[AC Question]

I just updated to v2.16.13 on my Nexus 6 and I still don't get the ability to format text, i.e., bold, italics, strikethrough. Even though I have used the *bold*, _italics_ and ~strikethrough~. How do I do so?
