How to add a device calendar to samsung s7

I used to have a galaxy s5 and i was able to have a few device calendars which i would then color code (so work would always be red, classes green, stuff like that). I cannot seem to do this with the new calendar app. I know i can add a gmail account or an outlook account but i would like to add a new calendar onto the phone directly. I dont want to have to add a new google calendar, i just want it to work like the s5 calendar app did. Also my samsung account refuses to sync

The color normally indicates which Google calendar the event was found on - so not having any Google calendar link and having color-coded events is kind of mutually exclusive.

As for the Samsung account, if it doesn't clear up in a few days (sometimes the server isn't working on Samsung - or on Google) make sure the login and password for your Samsung account is correct.
