I have copied everything from my Galaxy S6 Edge Plus to my Windows 10 laptop simply using Windows Explorer. The main things I'm interested in are my photos and contacts. I have successfully copied the photos, in the DCIM folder, but I cannot find my contacts. Which folder are they in? I can't try any fancy backup because there's a problem with the phone where it says the battery is overheating as soon as I try to open any app. So copying via Windows Explorer is an emergency expedient which seems to have worked, at least for photos and plenty of other folders, but wither contacts....?

Have you tried using Samsung's Smartswitch software on your computer? Should be compatible with your S6 Edge and would be able to pull your contacts over to your computer quite easily. It basically replaced the kies software. Let me know if this helps. If not we can figure something else out.
