I have just bought a Samsung Galaxy S4 I9500 32GB. I have downloaded the Samsung Kies When I try and connect to Kies, a pop-up appears and tells me "This device is supported through Smart Switch, which is faster and more convenient". I am comfortable with using Kies and use it for two older devices, another Samsung Galaxy A Series and a Samsung Galaxy Tab2. I am familiar and comfortable with Kies, and I wish to be able to manually update and most importantly, save my contacts and settings.

I do not want to save anything to cloud or using an app that does the same. I want to save everything to my computer and from there onto an external hard drive. I am also not sure which version of Android my S4 is using, but I suspect it may be Kit Kat. I need to know how I can connect my Galaxy S4 to Kies.

    Your help will be appreciated

Hello. Apparently it won't work from OS 5.0. There are some usb sync options missing from the older Kies program, but Smart Switch for pc useful overall. Best to save media directly to pc (drag and drop) or the cloud as well, I think.
