Photo shows up in gallery but when connected to PC only appears as a folder

All my photos and backed up photos appear fine on the phone, but when I connect to PC to transfer the files, they only appear as folder with the file name.

Welcome to Android Central! What directory are the photos saved to on the phone? Is it /DCIM/Camera? When you connect the phone to the computer, swipe down the notification panel and tap the USB icon--is it set to MTP?
