May I just point out before anyone tells me the S5 is waterproof, my phone was waterproof but the flap you shut when you've charged your phone to prevent water and dust damage broke off a while ago so the USB charger hole is always exposed.

I stupidly dropped my phone in the toilet yesterday afternoon. After drying it off I found it still worked which was a relief, although when It came to charge my phone, it wouldn't pick up that a charger had been connected. After taking the phone apart I found it was very damp with water so I put it in a bowl of rice and left it to dry overnight.
How long should I keep it in the bowl for before I can take it out & test it? Also if the rice trick doesn't work, how much is it going to cost me to get it repaired.

    Thanks in advance

You may be lucky if it's just the port. I dropped a new Motorola X Style in the toilet when out of town but switched it off straight away and 24 hours later it was OK, without doing anything I was taught (in a hotel). However I think I was lucky the ports seemed to escape ingress.

Normally after a few bathes in Isopropyl Alcohol the device can be usable in 3 - 5 days (the screen takes the longest to clear).

However sending current across the device straight after was not a good idea.

Rice will help dry it but won't remove the water impurities that adhere to the circuit boards and cause the issues.

If it does happen to be the port only, use Isopropyl Alcohol anyway. Newer ip68 devices don't rely on the port but are sealed inside.

Try Rukbat for more help. Up to you if you want to see if it's back to normal sooner, but I would play it safe.

(and no I don't have to go out of town to use the toilet, or go to a hotel to be given instructions. Just the way I write )
