Will my personal data be safe if I return a broken device to my carrier?

AC Question

I use T-Mobile as my carrier. Recently my LG V10 became stuck on the boot screen and would shut itself off. After trying everything I knew how to do I went to a T-mobile store to file a claim. My replacement device came in the mail the next day and now I'm suppose to ship the broken device back. I could not wipe my personal data off the phone. Will this potentially compromise my information (photos, password, etc)?

You may be able to do it via Android Device Manager from another device.
