How do you fix an "EVT or cal error" message when opening the camera.

I have a Samsung galaxy s6 active. It is only a few moths old but I have started to experience an issue recently where the main camera does not work and the forward camera displays a patchy rainbow effect over the image. When launching the camera it pops up with a message that says "EVT or cal error" and then the camera app crashes. I have temporarily fixed this issue in the past by clearing the camera cache and data but this is not working anymore. It does not seem to be a hardware issue but rather a software issue. Any help would be appreciated as my next option is to take it in to the AT&T store or do a factory reset. Thanks!
