Why are there 60 duplicates of one photo in my Gallery and Google Photos?

Earlier today I used my new Samsung Galaxy S7 to snap a quick picture. When I was done, I put the screen to sleep and put the phone away. Later I went to send a photo using a text message. There were 60 copies of that photo in my gallery and backed up to Google Photos. How could that have happened? I didn't use the phone after taking that picture. Is this a software corruption? A virus? Any ideas? Has this happened to anyone else? Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Hi, you can take burst shots with the camera, by holding down the shutter button - could you maybe have done this? does this happen with every photo you take?
