When you use your device to download music from the play store (or via the Google Music app), it's stored in a proprietary format for DRM purposes, and can only be accessed by the Google Music player. And I don't know that you are able to move it to an SD Card (may be wrong though).

A better method, If you want to download the music as an MP3 file, that can be transferred to your SD Card (and available to be played by any music player you choose), the only way I'm aware of at the moment is to download it via desktop/laptop web browser. When you click on the 3 dots to access the Download option you'll need to choose "Direct Download". Then transfer that MP3 file from your computer to your mobile device/SD Card. One item to note... each song/track can only be "Direct Downloaded" a total of 2 times. I typically download each song only once, then back it up somewhere for safe keeping.
