If i write a long txt,why does it send as an msn msg and charge me?

Why is it that when i write quite a long message,it then sends as an msn message and charges me?

It sends as an MMS.

Text is limited to 70 octets, which is 160 ASCII characters (only 80 Unicode characters). Anything longer than that and you have 2 choices - send as multiple SMS messages (the other end puts them back together) or send as MMS (which is a file uploaded to your carrier's site). There's no other way. A data file (even if it's just text) goes as data and you pay for it if you pay for data.

(Texting uses the old pocket pager code, and no pocket pager could handle a 160 character message, so it was more than long enough.)
