Messaging format changed after KitKat 4.4.4 update. Change back?

Hello,

I use the factory default SMS messaging app on my Android phone and have gotten quite used to it over the past year or so. However, opened it today and suddenly the texting format has changed - only thing I can think of is that it came with an automatic update.

I hate being slapped in the face with a change I wasn't expecting, but I especially hate the fact that this new layout is legitimately harder for me to use. Can I change it back?

This is why I back up all my apps, version by version.

IF you can find the older version, you can try installing it.
