Hello and welcome to AndroidCentral. The easiest way is to use an app like Zedge. Thousands of ring and notification tones on there and it downloads them into the proper directory. You can assign contact ring tones directly in the app. To use custom notifications you'll have to edit the contact and choose more and add the text tone.
