Since the marshmallow update I have to use my password to unlock my phone every time I turn it on. I have fingerprint security so this seems overkill and unnecessary. Can I turn off that password on startup or is this here for good?

Are you talking about powering on or just waking the phone by switching on?

Oh, thank you. Hmmm, didn't do it before upgrade. Before upgrade, I would just use the fingerprint to unlock phone after turning it on. I guess it keeps someone from chopping off your finger to access the phone, they'll need to keep you alive to get your password. I use my password then can use my fingerprints until I turn the phone off.

On an S7, that could be controlled in Settings>Lockscreen and Security>Secure Startup>toggle Require PIN on startup

My wife has the same S5 and uses pattern lock. When hers powers up it goes straight to pattern to unlock.
