I have a Chromecast dongle connected to an HDMI port on my Samsung TV. Using a Samsung Galaxy Tab A, I pull down the notification bar and tap "screen mirroring". "Select device" appears in a new window, and a small circle rotates in the upper right corner, after a short pause, "No connectable devices found". However..... I can open the Google Cast app on the tablet, tap on "Devices", and sure enough, the Chromecast ID appears. I can then select "Device Settings" from the drop down menu and the device MAC address and IP address are shown. I can cast to the Chromecast dongle (and therefore the TV) from within the Google Cast app, but I cannot screen mirror from the Galaxy Tab A screen mirroring icon. Why not??

Hi, I never found the screen mirroring function all that reliable on Samsung phones - I just use the chromecast app to mirror the screen.

AFAIK you cannot do this directly to the device, it needs to be done through a network
