Why do music apps continue to play after closed?

[AC Question]

Just bought my S7 (at&t) and need some help. I've turned on 3 music apps, Spotify, Milk Music, and Tune in Radio. Then I go and close the apps from the bottom left squares, but they don't turn off and the music/radio continues to play. I have to go all the way in the app manager to close them.

I would think they would close on the first step...just like my other galaxy device. Any help?

Welcome to Android Central! While they're playing, do you see an icon in the notification bar? If so, swipe down the notification panel, then swipe away the music app notification there.

Hit the pause button in the app before closing it.
