How can I fix the error "android.media.process has stopped"?

I've had my phone (Asus Zenfone 2 - ZE550ML) and this is the first problem I've had with it.
The error message keeps re-opening immediately whenever it is closed rendering the phone unusable; I can only just get past the lock screen before the phone crashes completely. I have restarded the phone, removed the SD card and tried to gain access via USB, but to no avail.
All of the forum posts I've seen asking for a fix have involved going into the phone's settings which is just not possible due to the error. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, are you able to boot the device in to safe mode? if you are and it works fine, then the problem is with a 3rd party app you've installed. From a computer you can access Google Play and uninstall apps that are on your device.
