photos not transferring from phone to computer after update

after new update in June 2016, i am now unable to upload photos with USB from samsung S5 to imac or windows.

on imac, message pops up stating that i need to unlock my device with a pin, but the device is already unlocked.

on windows, nothing happens. device is recognized, but no files are visible.

What happens if you take the ext card out of the phone and put it in a computer? If you can see the files then, it's the phone requiring this behaviour.

I'm using the same card I had in a prior phone not reformatted. The phone itself only sees media on the card, but a good file explorer (on the phone) and Windows do see everything on the card.

Does "My Computer" on Windows show 2 drives when you plug in the phone? I had to enable USB debugging on almost every phone I've had to get the cards to show right.
