Google Play Services is holding my storage hostage

A

AC Question

The last 2 days, I have been fighting Google Play Services for my storage space. I only have 2gb to start with and usually keep about 300mb free most of the time. Well, when I woke up this morning, I only had 8kb of free space, not even enough to take a screenshot to post here. I checked my storage usage and Google Play Services was taking up 360 megabytes, i.e. all of my free space. Just for kicks, I deleted an app that I don't need anymore, freeing up about 10mb, which Google Play Services promptly used up so that I now have 2mb free.
I could click "Clear Data" under settings, but I did that at least 6 times yesterday, only to have all that space taken up again by Play Services. I've dug through all the settings, searched all the forums, and even considered disabling Play Services (i heard that was a bad idea) but I am now at my ropes end. So I ask:

You guys are smart. Any ideas?
