So..I bought a Samsung Galaxy on5 in China (from a legit retailer) and ave now realized that the Chinese-bought Samsungs dont come with Google Playstore pre-installed.

Ive already tried dowloading it from a bunch of third party appstores and factory resetting the phone again etc.

Does anyone know if there's a way to reset the phone to a non-chinese version or any other alternatives to get google play.

Welcome to Android Central! If the phone isn't certified for Google Play, then even manually installing the Play Store usually won't work. You could consider rooting the phone and installing a custom ROM that's compatible with the Play Store, but you'd have to do some searching to see if that's possible. Otherwise, look into other app stores like Amazon Underground, GetJar, or SlideMe.

As B.Diddy said you need a custom ROM. Trouble is there don't seem to be any but this may help [KERNEL/TWRP/ROOT] Samsung SM-G550FY (O5LTESWA)
    Use at your own risk

I would like to ask a question along the same topic. I want to buy the S8 while I am in China. I know that certain regions have slightly different versions and I want to make sure that I buy a version that will allow me to have access to the playstore so I can DL gmail, google translate, maps, etc. I have read that I need to but the "international" S8 but when I go on a site like JD.com, they either sell a honk kong version (which is 200-400$ more), a singapore version and a Korean version. I have gotten the model number for different regions and think that anything that is not from the China region should be ok, but I want to make sure as the phone is considerably more expensive here than elsewhere. I have talked to the people at JD and they were useless. They called it a korea version but it has the HK model number and simply told me that you can't access google in china (which isn't true). Please help me figure this out android community. How do I make sure that the S8 I buy will allow me to DL the google I need and love. Thanks!!!
