Wifi not recognizing all available networks unless cellular is connected

[AC Question]

Accidentally updated my Galaxy S5 to 5.1.1 last night and now wifi does not find all available networks when airplane mode is on. When turning off airplane mode, device will connect to cellular and suddenly my home network is found and connected. When turning airplane mode back on and enabling wifi, my home network disconnects and disappears ("Not in range"). All other devices connected to the router still function normally.

I've tried wiping cache, safe mode, restarting router and phone to no avail.
