Is there a way to turn off notifications for a partucular message thread on moto x 2?

I want to stop receiving notifications for a particular text chain without removing myself from it so I can still see what's going on if I go into messenger. I have a moto x 2nd gen. I still want to receive notifications for all other texts though so I don't want to just turn off all notifications.

What app are you using?

In Hangouts, open the conversation. Tap the overflow menu (3 buttons, top right corner) and select people and options. On there, turn off notifications and it should stop notifying for that thread. You can use the same process to change the notification sound on a conversation-by-conversation basis, just tap the appropriate item on that menu and choose your sound.
