Why won't me phone's screen turn on?

I have a weird problem. I have a BLU Dash X. When I hold the power button to initially power on the phone, everything works fine, but once i press the power button to turn off the screen and put the phone into sleep mode, the power button will no longer turn the screen back on. I can tell that the phone is still working because when I press the volume buttons they still make sounds and vibrate so I know the phone is working. I just do not know why the power button stops turning the screen back on. Any tips?

Welcome to Android Central! See if it happens in Safe Mode as well. On most Android devices, while powered on, press and hold Power until the Power Off menu appears. Press and hold the Power Off selection until the Safe Mode prompt appears. Tap OK.

If the problem disappears in Safe Mode, then something you installed is causing the problem. You may have to uninstall apps one by one until the problem disappears. If the problem persists in Safe Mode, then it's more likely to be a hardware or firmware problem.
