Whatsapp Drive backup not working

When I select 'Backup Now', it backs up to the phone, and then says 'Preparing Google Drive backup...' without actually ever backing up.

I don't have any issues syncing with my Google account.

Please help!!

Contacted WhatsApp. It is a known issue. I subscribed to the beta program which has the fix in it. All is ok. This fix will eventually make it to release version, if it hasn't already.

I had this problem (Android OS) and was able to resolve it by doing the following:


1) Visit WhatsApp's website and download the latest version of WhatsApp directly from the site (not App Store):
https://www.whatsapp.com/download/

If you are being redirected to the Google Play Store on your mobile device, try visiting the WhatsApp for Android download page directly:
https://www.whatsapp.com/android/


2) Press the "Download Now" button, which will download a "WhatsApp.apk" file to your device.


3) Launch the .apk file on your Mobile device, which will prompt you to update your WhatsApp installation. Press "Install" and let the update process complete.
(Note: I did not need to uninstall WhatsApp or even close the running process/window for this to work correctly.)


4) Once the upgrade is complete, attempt the backup process again and it should work this time, successfully backing up your Chat History to your Google Drive account.
