How can I stop google play services from taking up so much memory?

On my phone (which is either a 1st or 2nd gen Moto G), Google Play Services is taking up way too much memory on my phone. I have the 8GB model (which allows for around 5-6GB of allowed use) and Google Play Services is taking up 1.35GB of memory, where in the past it took up a tenth of that. I can no longer take pictures, and I have to keep deleting pictures so that I can receive texts. Any idea what is causing this, and how can I fix it???
