How do I unmute the alarm without waking everyone in the house?

I just want to slide the alarm volume to maximum, but I'm still at work during the night at a group home while the kids are sleeping. When I slide the volume on, my phone blares the default alarm tone, so I can't set it while I'm at work. Sometimes I forget to set it before going to sleep for my next shift, so this is a problem.

Is there a way to prevent the stupid thing from blasting the default alarm tone into the air when I just slide the alarm volume up? I don't need the sound feedback. That's what the visual feedback is for.
