Can access download but can't access recovery

[AC Question]

I have a rooted Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 that does everything I need but can sometimes be slow to open apps.

I'd like to try wiping the cache partition but I can't get into recovery via "volume up-home-power". (The phone simply turns on.)

I CAN get into download via "volume down-home-power"

Can anyone suggest a key sequence that might get me into recovery?

Try Power-Volume Up or Power-Home

Thanks for the suggestion. Sadly, no joy.

Either sequence brings up a screen that shows GTS5760M, then the screen goes black and it starts vibrating rhythmically. If I release the power button the phone starts normally.

Tried Power + Volume (up AND down) + HOME and got in to recovery.
