Note 5 - can't read USB drive while using wireless charging?

I just got a Samsung fast wireless charger so that it would charge my phone while I played music from my SanDisk USB drive (using PowerAmp and bluetooth to my mini-speaker). Unfortunately, as soon as I lay my phone on the wireless charger, I get a message that it's lost connection to the USB drive (Folder is missing/not readable. Try a Full Rescan?). Even when I do a full rescan, the phone can't seem to find it.

Anybody know how to fix this problem? If there's no fix, then I just wasted money buying the wireless charger.
