Why is my phone screen brightness lower than the lowest setting?

Yesterday afternoon my phone screen's brightness went so low that I couldn't even see it in a completely dark room. I've tried every way of accessing my brightness as I could, but trying to navigate it puts so much strain on my eyes it's becoming useless. I read on other forum threads with similar situations that I should try doing a factory reset on my phone, so I did, and nothing has changed. Please help.

Your screen is probably on an automatic slider which can reduce the brightness below the manual minimum. So it's probably not a biggie

When you did the factory reset, or if you restart your phone, is the screen brightness so low you can't even see the phone logos, etc, during boot up?

Sounds like the screen just decided to give up. You'll probably need to take it in for repair. Depending on how old the phone is, it might be covered under warranty, as long as the fault wasn't caused by a drop.
