I have an LG G3 with android 4.4.2 (16gb, 2gb ram model) and i can't remember if my bootloader is locked or unlocked. how do I check this?

same goes for my recovery mode: how do I tell if I have a custom recovery?

Hello and welcome to Android Central. Do you recall unlocking your bootl oader? If you did not unlock the boot loader, it's possible the boot loader is locked. You didn't mention your carrier, but if you're on Verizon, your boot loader should be unlocked by default. Also, if you are running a custom rom on your G3, you should be unlocked.

The next question is do you have root? You can download Root Checker from the play store. Install it and run it, and you'll know if you have root.

Here's a good source for unlocking and rooting your device. I must caution you to only proceed if you are experienced with flashing your phone. You always run the risk of bricking your phone.
