Why won't my galaxy s4 active charge and how do i fix it?

My phone has multiple problems, and i'm planning on replacing it soon, but ever since i got the phone last year, i have needed to switch out the battery every night for it to properly charge, and when i don't switch out the battery, instead of charging a little or staying where it is, it discharges. I'm visiting a relative and forgetfully didn't bring a spare battery, and now i plug in my phone, and it vibrates every so often, but doesn't show any sign of charging, and has been plugged in for several hours. How do i fix this problem? Thank you so much

Turn off your wifi, data, and location and charge the phone. Sometimes apps run in the background and use more energy than the charger can supply... so the battery discharges while charging.

You could have a bad charging port, or a bad charging circuit in the phone - it's not possible to pinpoint it remotely. Bring a universal charger with you until you replace the phone - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU5458899 is only $7 and I haven't found a battery it doesn't work on. (Even one of the LGs that's a hair too wide can be fit into it.)
