Why did my LGG5 reset itself?

Screen was on wizard set up, and now after going thru the steps, it asked if I wanted to restore all my apps, I said yes, and now it has been on the 'restoring" screen for 2 1/2 hours?????? And killing my battery????

Welcome to Android Central! What were you doing when it did this factory reset? It sounds like a pretty catastrophic glitch. You might need to contact LG.

Or, if you had a lot of apps on the phone, and you synced them to the cloud, it may actually be restoring them (and it can take a long time on a slow connection to restore a lot of large apps).
