Adblockers work. I use adguard here. Never see ads.

What kind of "things" are you opening?

Ad blockers will work in your web browsers.

To block ads in your apps, you need a rooted phone or debugging software.

Welcome to Android Central! If the popup ads are only occurring when you're browsing, then go to Settings>Apps, select the browser, and Clear Cache/Clear Data, then see if they persist.

If they occur even when you're in another app or on the homescreen, then you probably installed some adware inadvertently alongside some other app. Try uninstalling apps one by one until the problem goes away.
