AC Question

Hello,
I'm trying to work out how to back photos up from and SD card (from my DSLR) to internal phone memory and an external memory stick, without using a PC. The workflow I want to create is as follows:
(1) Copy photos from SD card onto phone.
(2) Sort photos (in the phone) into folders of my choice.
(3) Synchronise the folders to and external memory stick.

I have:
- Nexus 5x, running Android 6.
- A USB-C hub with built-in card reader.
- An SD card (from DSLR).
- A USB memory stick.

Using a Windows PC I would use explorer to do (1) and (2) and Freefilesync for (3).

I've tried ES File Explorer, for (1) and (2), but it seems to have issues - some cards it can open without any problem, but others it shows the USB device, but reports that it 'Failed to open file' when I try to access the files.

I'm still trying to find an Android equivalent of Freefilesync, I've tried a few, but couldn't get them to work (I didn't seem to be able to find the external memory stick).

Any help will be gratefully received!

Welcome to Android Central! Digital cameras often have the ability to connect via USB--does yours? If so connect to the phone's USB port, and select PTP. Then see if you can transfer the camera's photos to the phone using a file manager app.
