1. Connecting to someone else's wifi - even with his permission - is illegal in most countries. (Since the provider owns the connection, it's theft of service. If you're caught in the US, your neighbor would be permanently banned from getting an internet connection, and fined for an additional internet connection - as if you had bought one - since he first got internet service.)
2. The only thing you can do about a long password is shorten it - you can't make the phone accept a longer one. (If it's an authentication error, I don't think that's the problem, though.)
