how do I switch cell phone providers

I got a cell phone and there is an area where it says choose provider for phone service and I am trying to use AT&T cuz I have better coverage but my phone keep saying that that is not reachable at this timeto try later

If AT&T is not your provider, you would need to have roaming on to use that provider. Hence you probably don't have roaming enabled on your phone, please be aware if you roam aka user another service provider other than yours, you may be charged roaming fees, which can be substantial
