Why no email and message notification sounds on my Samsung Galaxy note 5

As far as i can tell i`ve made the correct settings for email and sms notification sound tone when receiving emails and sms. I use the factory email app and the message app that came with the phone. But, i still don`t hear any sounds on incoming emails and sms. Volume is on full and no muting. Anyone have a solution please?
