Why can I not type in some textboxes after the latest update?

I notice that after the latest update I'm not able to type in certain textboxes with the touch keyboard. If I use an external wireless keyboard with these same textboxes, I can

What device do you have, and what version of Android is it running?

What keyboard app are you using?

Are these text boxes in websites in a browser (if so which one?) or in apps (if so which ones?)?

I'm running Android 6.0.1 on a Galaxy Tab A

The keyboard is the touch keyboard that come with the tablet

These are text boxes in Chrome

I've found 2 fixes: One is to open the same page and text box in a new tab. The other is to click on the recent apps button twice
