All of a sudden I have duplicate photos in my Galaxy Android 5

i tried to manually delete the duplicate and both photos, the original and the duplicate disappeared. How can i get rid of the duplicates and keep the original?

Welcome to Android Central! Is this an S5 or Note5? Where are you looking -- the stock Gallery app, the Google Photos app, or some other gallery app?

Remember also - photo apps show pictures that Media Scanner finds and puts into its database. If you have the same picture file in two places (/DCIM/Camera/December/ski and /DCIM/Camera/November/ski are both the "ski" album - but the files in them are different files, even if they have the same name), deleting one of them using a photo app can delete both of them. If you see duplicates, use a file manager (like My Files in Samsung) to delete one of the files - not the pictures in the photo app. (Then restart the phone to rebuild the database.)
