My phone ( a droid ) only rings for 4 seconds before going silent, how do I get it to ring longer?

My phone use to ring for about 30 seconds to a minute now it only rings for 4 or 5 sec. How do it get the settings back to ring longer? It's a mini android on Verizon wireless.

Does the call go to voicemail after 4 or 5 seconds (you have to reset that - call your carrier for help, since each one uses a different system). Or does it just stop ringing, but the caller is still waiting for you to answer (try a different ringtone - the one you're using may have gotten corrupted at the 4-5 second point).
