And how do I do it? It is a new card, and are there certain steps to follow?

Put the SD in the tablet, go to Settings > Storage... under SD Card... choose Format SD card. Use it as you wish to store music, photos, videos. Don't think of using it to move apps to as apps don't really move... only a very small portion might move, but the rest stays on internal storage.
