Why can't I open networked folders on my Samsung S5 Neo

A

AC Question

Using ES File Explorer via the home network I can see the folders on my Toshiba Satellite laptop, but I can't open any of them!
What should I do?

What OS is the laptop running? Windows uses the SMBA (pronounced "samba") protocol for network file sharing, which is not natively supported in Android. ES File Explorer does have a SMBA plugin, but I would image that you already have that installed, if you're seeing the folders.

What happens when you tap a folder? Is it giving you an error? It could be an authentication issue, where you've given your WIndows account to access the folders on the network, but not open for un-authenticated access.

It would also depend on what version of Windows, as the SMBA protocol has evolved over the years, and not all versions are 100% compatible with each other, in my experience.
