LCD screen or just a screen on Galaxy s5

How do I know if I need a LCD with my screen or just the screen on a galaxy s5 my phone lights up at bottom and charges and can hear notifications but can't see anything

You need a new AMOLED panel.

One thing that has happened to me with my S5 is that the brightness setting, that I leave in auto, has a couple of times switched, by itself, to manual, at the lowest setting. The screen is so dark it is hard to set it back.
