Welcome to Android Central! Are you talking about a prompt to enter the Google account information right after the factory reset was done? That's Factory Reset Protection -- you have to enter your mother's Google account and password in order to proceed. This is a way to discourage thieves from stealing a phone and doing a simple factory reset to make it their own. Ask your mother for her Google account information. Then when you've logged back in, go to Settings>Accounts, select her Google account, and remove it. Then do the factory reset again. That's what's referred to as an "authorized factory reset."

Google's serious about security. They want to make sure someone doesn't steal your phone and just reset it to make it their own. https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/6172890?hl=en
