I have an HTC M8. I used to be able to turn on Wi-Fi in airplane mode until last week. There was apparently an update, I got signed out of Google, etc, various things on my phone were rearranged, and now I'm unable to turn on Wi-Fi in airplane mode. I called HTC support and they said that this was a new security measure but didn't have any documentation, their website is not up to date on this, and I can't find any references anywhere that what they told me is correct. Is this in fact a new security measure, and if it isn't what can I do about it?

Yes, you should not use WIFI while in airplane, because Airplane uses old-school(I prefer that word) technology to communicate with Control Tower, as old Radios are yet most reliable communication. But radios can be harmed by WIFI, bluetooth, or any other wireless networks.........You know, pilots won't prefer listening to mimics when they talk to Control Tower.........That's why, your manufacturer disabled that option, well, I would prefer to say "Patch the bug"

Welcome to Android Central! That seems unusual -- all of my devices (running Marshmallow and Nougat) can still turn on wi-fi while in Airplane Mode. Maybe it's just an HTC thing ...
