I'm not an experienced user of Android, but my girlfriend's mother asked me if I could help clean up her android tablet since it was running incredibly slow. I uninstalled most of the games and junk apps on her tablet that she no longer needed, and it's running nice and snappy now. But there are several leftover icons to uninstalled games that I can't figure out how to remove. They are in the main app view screen, in the tab right next to the widgets screen, and if I tap one of those icons, it says "app isn't installed", but if I hold the icon, it just allows me to move it over to the home screens. If I drag it over to "app info", the screen just flashes for a second and goes back to the app/widget menu again. So it seems these are leftover icons from uninstalling and I can't remove them.

Is there any way to get rid of these leftover app icons?

You can try and see if there's a way to wipe the device cache. That may clear the icons.

I agree with clearing the cache first. If the icons are still there after restarting the phone you could install this app and run the 'Corpse Finder' feature to remove leftovers from uninstalled apps.
