Suddenly I am getting notifications ..I hate the noise, I have all sounds other than phone ring disabled yet this thing still boom chimes telling me random news headlines

Uninstall it through either Google Play store or App Manager in Settings. You can also go to App Manager in Settings and find the app and turn off notifications. A setting in the app may also allow you to adjust the notification settings.
