Moto Z Force. How do I clear SMS message icon?

Welcome to Android Central! The Recent Apps button is to the left or right of the Home button -- it looks like a square or rectangle.

To be clear, you're talking about the unread count badge on the app shortcut icon, right? You can try going to Settings>Apps, tap Menu>Show System, then look for an app called Badge Provider. If you see it, select it, tap Storage, then Clear Cache/Clear Data.
