My AOD doesnt show text or email notifications (stock), even though I have them switched

My AOD display on my Galaxy S7 edge does not show my stock email or messages text notifications. I went to the settings and made sure the notifications were "on", and I only use the stock email and messaging app. How come my AOD wont show it? It wont even show missed calls (as I tried it to test with another phone). Am I missing something?
