I have found an app on my phone (LG Sunset) which is called Home and it takes up 396 KB. Is the the "Home" that is not responding and what is it? Also, my battery seems to be draining faster than it should. When I look at my battery usage the number 1 usage is Android System at 44% - should it be that high?

Yes, your home launcher is force closing. Try clearing cache and data on it or you can download a different launcher. Nova Launcher is pretty popular.
As for the system, that is probably pretty normal. You can try turning off data, wifi, location, and Bluetooth when not in use. Maybe also adjust screen timeout and brightness too.
